What Is Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana West Bengal?

For many years, West Bengal had its own health scheme called Swasthya Sathi, which covered almost every family in the state. In 2026, the state decided to join the central Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).

But Ayushman Bharat does not cover every family. It covers only families that meet its selection rules (mainly based on the SECC 2011 list and some worker groups), plus all senior citizens aged 70 and above. So, many families who had Swasthya Sathi would have been left without cover.

To fill this gap, the state launched the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana. It gives the same ₹5 lakh cover to families who are left out of Ayushman Bharat.
