What Is PM Ujjwala Yojana 3.0?

PM Ujjwala Yojana is a central government scheme that gives a deposit-free LPG connection to an adult woman of a poor household. The government pays for the connection, so the family does not have to pay any security deposit to the gas company.

The scheme started in 2016. In August 2021, the government launched Ujjwala 2.0, which added a free gas stove and a free first refill, and made the rules easier for migrant families. In September 2025, the government approved 25 lakh more free connections. People and news sites started calling this new phase “Ujjwala 3.0”.

Is “Ujjwala 3.0” an Official Name?

This is a common question, so here is the clear answer:

  • The government’s own website (pmuy.gov.in) still calls the application “Ujjwala 2.0 connection“.
  • The 25 lakh connections approved in September 2025 are officially called the “25 lakh extension” of PMUY.
  • “Ujjwala 3.0” is a popular name used by the public for this latest phase.

So, when you apply for “Ujjwala 3.0” online, you will actually click on “Apply for New Ujjwala 2.0 Connection” on the official website. The benefits, rules and form are the same. Do not get confused by the name.

Latest Updates on Ujjwala Yojana (2026)

  • 25 lakh new connections: The government approved 25 lakh additional free connections in September 2025, at a cost of ₹2,050 per connection. As on 23 September 2026, 24,42,525 of these connections had already been released. This means very few slots are left in this round, so eligible women should apply soon.
  • Subsidy cap cut from 9 to 4 refills: In June 2026, the government reduced the number of subsidised cylinders from 9 to 4 per year, because global LPG prices went up sharply. The subsidy amount is still ₹300 per 14.2 kg cylinder.
  • 5 kg cylinder subsidy: Users of the small 5 kg cylinder get a subsidy in proportion to its size (about ₹106 per 5 kg cylinder, as per news reports in October 2026).
  • e-KYC clarification: In March 2026, the ministry said Aadhaar e-KYC is needed only for LPG users who have not yet completed it. Gas delivery will not stop because of e-KYC.
  • Total reach: More than 10.56 crore Ujjwala connections have been given so far.

Benefits of PM Ujjwala Yojana 3.0

The biggest benefit is that a poor family gets a complete LPG kit at no cost. Before Ujjwala 2.0, many families had to take a loan for the stove and first refill. Now these are free.

What You Get Free With a New Connection

ItemDo you pay?
Cylinder security depositNo, free
Pressure regulatorNo, free
Suraksha LPG hose (safety pipe)No, free
DGCC booklet (your gas consumer card)No, free
Installation chargesNo, free
First refill (first full cylinder)No, free
Gas stove (chulha)No, free
Refills after the first oneYes, you pay the market price and get a subsidy back

The government spends about ₹2,050 per connection for these items under the latest 25 lakh extension.

LPG Subsidy: How Much Money Do You Get Back?

When you book a refill, you pay the full market price to the delivery person. After that, the government sends the subsidy money directly into your Aadhaar-linked bank account. This is called Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Point2025-26 rule2026 rule (after June 2026)
Subsidy per 14.2 kg cylinder₹300₹300
Subsidised refills per yearUp to 9First 4 only
Maximum subsidy per year₹2,700₹1,200
5 kg cylinderProportional subsidyProportional subsidy (about ₹106 per cylinder)
How you get itBank account (DBT)Bank account (DBT)

Why did the government cut the refills to 4? The ministry said global LPG prices rose a lot in 2026, and oil companies were facing big losses on each cylinder. It also said that most Ujjwala families use around 4 to 5 cylinders in a year, so 4 subsidised refills cover a large part of normal use.

14.2 kg vs 5 kg Cylinder: Which One Should You Choose?

You can choose the cylinder size while applying. Here is a simple comparison to help you decide.

Point14.2 kg cylinder5 kg cylinder
Best forFamilies of 4 or more peopleSmall families, single women, people who cannot pay a big amount at once
Lasts forLongerShorter
Price per refillHigherLower (easier to pay)
Subsidy₹300 per cylinderProportional (smaller amount)
Weight to carryHeavyLight and easy to carry

Simple tip: If paying for a full cylinder at one time is hard for your family, the 5 kg cylinder is easier on the pocket.

Other Benefits for the Family

  • Better health: Less smoke in the kitchen means fewer eye and lung problems for women and children.
  • Saves time: Women do not need to spend hours collecting wood.
  • Cleaner home: No black soot on walls and utensils.
  • Safer cooking: The free Suraksha hose and regulator are made to safety standards.
  • Extra state benefits: Some states give extra free refills to Ujjwala families. For example, Uttar Pradesh announced two free refills for its Ujjwala families in 2025. Check with your state for such offers.

PM Ujjwala Yojana 3.0 Eligibility

Before you apply, check that you meet all the eligibility rules given below. If even one rule does not match, your form may be rejected.

Basic Eligibility Checklist

  • The applicant must be a woman.
  • She must be 18 years or older.
  • No one in her household should already have an LPG connection from any oil company (Indane, Bharatgas or HP Gas).
  • She must belong to a poor household, as shown in the deprivation declaration (explained below).
  • She should have an Aadhaar card and a bank account (preferably linked with Aadhaar for the subsidy).

Which Families Are Treated as Poor?

Under Ujjwala 2.0, which still applies to the “3.0” phase, an adult woman from any of these groups can apply:

  • Scheduled Caste (SC) households
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST) households
  • PM Awas Yojana (Gramin) beneficiaries
  • Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration card holders
  • Forest dwellers
  • Most Backward Classes (MBC)
  • Tea and ex-tea garden tribes
  • People living on islands or river islands
  • Families listed in SECC 2011 (with AHL TIN number)
  • Any other poor household that can give the deprivation declaration

The Deprivation Declaration: When You Are Not Eligible

The deprivation declaration is a simple form in which you promise that your family is poor. In this form, you confirm that none of the following is true for your household:

Income and Job Conditions
  • Any family member earns more than ₹10,000 per month
  • Any family member pays income tax or professional tax
  • Any family member is a government employee

LPG Condition
  • The household already has an LPG connection

Important: Do not give false information in this form. If the details are found false later, the connection can be cancelled, the cylinder and equipment can be taken back, the subsidy can be recovered, and legal action can be taken.

Eligibility Check in One Picture

Follow the boxes below to quickly see if you can apply.

Special Rules for Migrant Families

Many poor families move to cities for work and do not have an address proof or ration card of their new place. Ujjwala 2.0 made this easy:

  • Migrant families can give a self-declaration (Annexure I) in place of an address proof.
  • The same self-declaration can be used in place of a ration card to show family details.
  • This means you can get a connection in the city where you live and work now.

Documents Required for PM Ujjwala Yojana 3.0

Keep these documents ready before you start the online form. Clear scanned copies or mobile photos (in PDF or JPG) will work.

Tips to Avoid Document Problems
  • Make sure your name spelling is the same on Aadhaar, ration card and bank passbook.
  • Link your Aadhaar with your bank account at your bank branch. Without this, the subsidy may not reach you.
  • Keep photocopies and photos of all papers. The gas agency may ask for them during verification.
  • Use a mobile number linked with Aadhaar if possible. It makes e-KYC easier later.

How to Check Ujjwala Yojana Application and Subsidy Status

After applying, you can track your form and, later, your subsidy. The names of buttons may look a little different on each company’s website, but the steps are similar.

Check Ujjwala Application Status Online

  1. Open the website of the gas company you applied with (Indane, Bharatgas or HP Gas). You can reach all three from pmuy.gov.in.
  2. Log in with the mobile number you used in the form and enter the OTP.
  3. Look for an option like “Track Request”, “Track Status” or “My Requests”.
  4. Enter your reference / application number, if asked.
  5. Your current status will be shown on the screen (for example: submitted, under verification, approved or connection released).

No internet? Call the Ujjwala helpline 14438 or visit your gas agency with your reference number.

Check Ujjwala Subsidy Status

You can check whether the ₹300 subsidy has reached your bank in three simple ways:

  • mylpg.in: Open mylpg.in, click on your gas company’s cylinder picture, log in, and open the option that shows your booking history and subsidy transferred.
  • Bank SMS or passbook: The subsidy usually shows as a DBT or PAHAL credit in your bank account. Update your passbook or check your bank SMS.
  • PFMS portal: On pfms.nic.in, use the “Know Your Payments” option with your bank name and account number to see government payments made to you.

Complete Your LPG e-KYC (Aadhaar Face Authentication)

e-KYC means confirming your identity with your Aadhaar. As per the ministry’s clarification in March 2026, it is needed only for LPG users who have not yet completed Aadhaar authentication. If you have already done it, you do not need to do it again.

  1. Install your gas company’s official app (for example, IndianOil ONE, Hello BPCL or HP Pay).
  2. Install the Aadhaar FaceRD app from the Play Store.
  3. Open your gas company app and log in with your registered mobile number.
  4. Choose the e-KYC / Aadhaar authentication option.
  5. Enter your Aadhaar number and scan your face when the camera opens.
  6. You will see a success message once e-KYC is complete.

You can also complete e-KYC at your gas agency with your fingerprint. Your gas delivery will not stop because of pending e-KYC, but completing it helps your subsidy reach you without trouble.

PM Awas Status Check: Why It Matters for Ujjwala

Many people search for PM Awas status along with Ujjwala Yojana. There is a good reason for this. Families who got a house under PM Awas Yojana (Gramin) are one of the groups listed as poor households under Ujjwala. So, if your name is in the PMAY-G beneficiary list, it can support your Ujjwala application.

How PM Awas and Ujjwala Are Linked

  • PMAY-G beneficiaries are a listed group for an Ujjwala connection.
  • Checking your PM Awas status helps you confirm your beneficiary details (like your PMAY ID and registration number) before you apply.
  • A house received under a government scheme is not counted in the “house above 30 square metres” rule of the deprivation declaration. So, a PM Awas house will not make you ineligible for Ujjwala.

PM Awas Gramin (PMAY-G) Status With Registration Number

  1. Visit the official website pmayg.nic.in.
  2. Click on the “Stakeholders” menu at the top.
  3. Select “IAY/PMAYG Beneficiary” from the list.
  4. Enter your registration number in the box.
  5. Click “Submit”.
  6. Your details will be shown, such as your PMAY ID, house approval and the money released in each instalment.

PM Awas Gramin Status Without Registration Number

  1. Open the same beneficiary page on pmayg.nic.in (Stakeholders, then IAY/PMAYG Beneficiary).
  2. Click on “Advanced Search”.
  3. Select your state, district, block and gram panchayat.
  4. Enter your name (and BPL number, if you have one) to narrow the search.
  5. Click “Search” to see your record.

PM Awas Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) Application Status

  1. Visit the official website pmaymis.gov.in.
  2. Click on “Track Application” in the main menu.
  3. Enter your application ID, user code or registered mobile number.
  4. Submit the details.
  5. You can see your registration status, verification progress, approval and subsidy release details.

If you applied under the older PMAY-U (before PMAY-U 2.0), use “Citizen Assessment” and then “Track Your Assessment Status”, and search with your assessment ID or with your name, father’s name and mobile number.

If you are using LPG for the first time, these simple safety tips will keep your family safe.

  • Always keep the cylinder standing upright, on the floor, and in an open, airy place.
  • Turn off the regulator after cooking, not just the stove knob.
  • If you smell gas, do not light a match or switch on any light or fan. Open the doors and windows and call 1906.
  • Use only the Suraksha hose given with your connection and replace it when it gets old or cracked.
  • Keep children away from the stove while cooking.
  • Do not keep the cylinder inside a closed cupboard.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is PM Ujjwala Yojana 3.0?

Go to pmuy.gov.in, click on “Apply for New Ujjwala 2.0 Connection”, choose Indane, Bharatgas or HP Gas, select your gas agency, verify your mobile number, fill the form, upload documents and submit. Then complete KYC at the gas agency if they call you.

Is Ujjwala 3.0 different from Ujjwala 2.0?

Who is eligible for PM Ujjwala Yojana 3.0?

A woman aged 18 years or more, from a poor household, can apply if no one in her household already has an LPG connection. Families from SC, ST, PMAY-G, AAY and other listed groups, or any poor family that gives the deprivation declaration, are eligible.

No. The connection is given only in the name of an adult woman of the household. A man can help his wife, mother or sister fill the form, but the application must be in her name.

What documents are needed for Ujjwala Yojana?

You need the KYC form, the applicant’s Aadhaar card, address proof (if different from Aadhaar), ration card or family document, Aadhaar of adult family members, bank account details and the deprivation declaration (if needed). Migrant families can give a self-declaration.
