✅ Key rules

  • Opened by parent/guardian for a girl below 10 years; one account per girl, up to two girls per family (three for twins/triplets).
  • Deposit ₹250 to ₹1.5 lakh every financial year, for 15 years from opening.
  • Account matures 21 years after opening; interest keeps growing in years 16–21 with no deposits.
  • Interest rate is announced every quarter by the Government.

💡 Earn more interest

  • Deposit before the 5th of the month — after the 5th, that month earns no interest on the new money.
  • Yearly payers: deposit before 5th April to earn interest for the whole year.
  • Missed the ₹250 minimum? Revive the account by paying ₹50 penalty per year plus the minimum deposit.

🎓 Withdrawal & closure

  • Up to 50% of the balance (at the end of the previous financial year) can be withdrawn for education once she turns 18 or passes Class 10.
  • Account can be closed early for her marriage after 18, or on compassionate grounds.

🧾 Tax benefit (EEE)

  • Deposits qualify for deduction under Section 80C (old tax regime), within the ₹1.5 lakh limit.
  • Interest earned and the maturity amount are fully tax-free.
Results are estimates based on the rate you enter, assumed constant for 21 years. Actual rates change every quarter. Please confirm at your post office or bank.
